We Made The Switch
Lane Cove Council has a long-standing commitment to sustainability and is determined to be at the forefront of community expectations by adopting best practices in sustainability within Councils operations and services. Since July 2022 all of Councils facilities, including The Canopy, have been powered by 100% renewable energy with power coming via three solar farms in NSW.
This means that if you are using one of the six electric vehicle chargers (level P3) or one of the two fast charging stations (level P2) your zero emissions vehicle is being powered by renewable energy.
The Canopy's car park lighting and associated services have been off-grid since The Canopy opened in 2020, with power delivered on-site by 79Kw of solar and four Tesla Powerwall batteries.
Using renewable energy, combined with Council's other energy savings and own solar power generation projects, has decrease Council's energy emissions from 2% of the LGA to 0.5%. Council has progressed well in reducing our own emissions, with data from 2022/2023 showing that we had reduced our emissions by 79%, a significant advance on our 80% reduction target set for 2036.
Changing Place
A change facility with adult change table, hoist, shower and peninsula door is located on P1 of The Canopy (at the northern end). This changing place allows people with high support needs to fully participate in the community. There are just 136 of these facilities in Australia and The Canopy Changing Place is the only one available in a public space on the North Shore.
Lost & Found
There is a Lost & Found in the Centre Management Office on P2. Items will be held for collection for 30 days only. To contact Centre Management, please call 0468515371 during business hours.
Dogs at The Canopy
The Canopy is primarily a space for people. If you do bring your dog please remember to keep it on-leash at all times. Dogs are not permitted on the Village Green, within 10 metres of the playground or BBQ area and are not allowed in the downstairs retail area (Coles/ALDI). The easiest way to comply with rules within The Canopy is to make sure your dog is on-leash, that you stay to footpaths as you are passing through and do not leave dogs unattended while visiting The Canopy. Thank you for helping to keep our community space safe by observing these rules.
No Bikes in The Canopy
The Canopy is a busy pedestrian area. For the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, you cannot ride your bike through The Canopy. The Shared Zone is available for cyclists and a number of bike stands are available for anyone who would like to park their bike and visit The Canopy. For anyone visiting the End of Trip facilities on P1, please walk your bike to and from these facilities.
