2021 was a big year for The Canopy!
An Australia Day Picnic with local bands and duos including crowd favourites and runner’s up of The X Factor Australia 2015, couple-duo Jess & Matt, kicked things off, followed by home-grown films, Paper Planes and The Sapphires.
In March, locals were invited to immerse themselves in the temporary art installation, ‘Plasma’, an organic reflection of energy and light, by Chimera Atelier.
Yoga on the Village Green sessions were popular amongst locals celebrating International Women's Day.
Two times Platinum, 8 times Gold and APRA award winning, singer and songwriter Jack Jones entertained crowds in April, which was followed by an ANZAC Day service in partnership with the Lane Cove Sub Branch of the RSL.
Two new public art murals were welcome additions to The Canopy. 'Tribute to the Moon Down Under' by Katherine Gailer (aka KATIRA) can be found on the rear wall of the Commonwealth Bank in Birdwood Lane, while 'The Daily' by Kim Siew, can be found on the rear wall of Lane Cove Newsagency.
Hundreds of locals enjoyed the Spooky Spectacular film screenings of Monsters Inc. and Spirited Away in October.
The Canopy was buzzing in November as we welcomed Australian entertainment royalty, Kate Ceberano to The Canopy stage! Sydney Youth Jazz Orchestra got things underway, followed by the irresistibly sultry voice of RAYN who opened for the Aria-award winner, Kate Ceberano!
To round out the year and to kick-off Lane Cove's Christmas celebrations, everyone's favourite heeler, Bluey and her sister Bingo, joined us on The Canopy stage for a Christmas extravaganza!
The Canopy also added a few more awards to its name, including winner of Australia’s Urban Design Award for Built Projects – Local and Neighbourhood Scale convened by the Planning Institute of Australia, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects and Australian Institute of Architects.
